Dave Chappelle Tests Positive For Covid-19, Remaining Austin Texas Shows Canceled

by TMA

Dave Chappelle was set for a big weekend of shows in Austin, Texas at the Stubbs Waller Creek Amphitheater. But after testing positive for Covid-19, the shows have been canceled.

“Dave Chappelle is quarantined after testing positive for COVID-19. His remaining shows at Stubbs Waller Creek Amphitheater in Austin, TX have been cancelled and ticket holders should contact their point of purchase for refunds,” a rep for the comedian said in a statement. “Chappelle has safely conducted socially-distanced shows in Ohio since June 2020 and he moved those shows to Austin during the winter. Chappelle implemented COVID-19 protocols which included rapid testing for the audience and daily testing for himself and his team. His diligent testing enabled him to immediately respond by quarantining, thus mitigating the spread of the virus. Chappelle is asymptomatic.”

Live Nation was the producer for the shows, which carried a hefty $1,600 per table (plus tax and unspecified fees) admission for a six-person table, or $1,400 for four people.

Chappelle was set to team with Joe Rogan on two nights. The other three dates were billed as “Dave Chappelle and Friends,” but no specifics on who would appear were given.

According to TMZ, which first reported about Chappelle’s positive test, he performed the first of the five shows in Austin Wednesday night in the stand, with the rest scheduled for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Rogan on Thursday night took to social media to confirm that the Friday and Saturday shows have been cancelled and will be rescheduled, adding, “because people are asking, I was not exposed to the person who had Ccovid and I have tested negative every day this week. Also, the person that gave Covid to Dave was NOT Elon’s partner Grimes.”

He made the comment after a picture from this earlier week circulated, in which five people, including Chappelle, Rogan, Elon Musk and his partner Grimes were posing together, none of them wearing masks. Grimes chronicled her bout with Covid earlier this month.
